Rico Weber was born in Hinwil (Switzerland) in 1942 and died in 2004. He met and became assistant to Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle during their monumental Hon sculpture project at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm (then directed by Pontus Hultén), where Rico Weber worked as a cook. In 1978, he first exhibited casts of his own body for the Hammer 1 group exhibition in Basel. Jean Tinguely asked him to create a series of these casts, entitled Les Gisants, for Le Cyclop (which he also helped build). His collaboration with Jean Tinguely would continue up until the latter’s death in 1991.
